Allô Citoyen Results: 1,402 Students & Apprentices Empowered Across 10 Cities

Following an intensive academic year of grassroots fieldwork, the NGO Youth For Challenge presents the technical and civic results of its flagship program Allô Citoyen for the 2025-2026 cycle. Designed to provide concrete educational solutions to the daily vulnerabilities faced by youth, the initiative deployed across 10 municipalities in four key departments of Benin: Mono (Lokossa, Comè, Athiémé, Grand-Popo, Houéyogbé, Bopa), Zou (Ouinhi, Bohicon), Collines (Savalou), and Alibori (Kandi).
In total, 1,402 middle and high school students as well as young craft apprentices from 25 secondary schools and vocational workshops actively took part in training modules, awareness sessions, and grassroots civic action.
Pillar 1: Road Safety Citizenship and Life-Saving First Aid Addressing the alarming surge in traffic accidents disproportionately affecting students and young motorcycle riders, Youth For Challenge mobilized an unprecedented technical partnership with the Departmental Directorate of the Republican Police (DDPR) and the National Road Safety Center (CNSR). Across schoolyards and artisan workshops, 796 youth engaged in hands-on interactive sessions covering road signs, intersection right-of-way, mandatory certified helmet use, and hazards of mobile phone usage while driving. Certified instructors also trained participants in fundamental emergency response: assessing vital signs, placing victims in the Recovery Position (PLS), and immediately activating emergency dispatch numbers (Police 117, Fire Service 118). Post-session evaluations measured an outstanding 94% retention rate of safety protocols.
Pillar 2: Positive Masculinities and GBV Prevention In close coordination with local antennas of the National Women's Institute (INF) and methodological support from UNFPA, Pillar 2 engaged 423 adolescent boys and young men in deep social norms transformation. The program pioneered the implementation of the innovative educational tool "The Man Box" at CEG Comè, CEG Ouinhi, and the Catholic College of Comè. This tool enabled safe, stigma-free dialogue circles helping young men deconstruct toxic stereotypes that equate manhood with aggression and control over girls. Workshops firmly tackled physical assault, cyberharassment, and academic coercion, while promoting mutual respect, gender equality, and widespread knowledge of the INF toll-free support helpline (51 02 02 02).
Pillar 3: Social Cohesion and "Pupilles de la Paix" Clubs Recognizing that community resilience and peacebuilding are vital prerequisites for youth prosperity, Pillar 3 mobilized 183 student leaders and apprentice delegates around the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Two official "Pupilles de la Paix" (Wards of Peace) clubs were formally chartered and equipped. Proudly wearing their official peace ambassador shirts, these youths were trained in peer mediation, non-violent communication, and early de-escalation of school and neighborhood disputes.
Citizen Advocacy Already Transformed into Lasting Community Action Beyond theoretical training, citizen issues voiced during field forums were immediately translated into concrete youth-led actions: free intensive tutoring for underprivileged students preparing for the BEPC national exam, an alert and digital safety network at CEG Kandi, anti-cyberbullying sentinels at the Catholic college, and vernacular awareness drives in Mina and Goun languages specifically customized for craft apprentices in local workshops.
Youth For Challenge extends heartfelt gratitude to school headmasters, master craftspeople, officers of the Republican Police, CNSR, and the National Women's Institute, as well as our tireless field volunteers whose civic dedication brings our mission to life every day.
